Following the 1st Panhellenic Playwriting Competition “Spyridon Peresiadis” 2025, entitled HOTEL HELMOS – Nearly a century of modern Greek life spent the night in its rooms, and the award ceremony for the winners held in Mesorrougi, Achaia, Greece, in September of the same year, the Theatre Laboratory of Drama and Speech of the Department of Theatre Studies at the University of Patras and the Department of Tourism Management at the University of Patras, in collaboration with the Drama School of the National Theatre and the Golfo Festival, with the financial support of the Ioannis & Efterpi Topali Cultural Foundation, present the event “Research in Theatrical Practice: From Writing to the Stage.”
The event will take place in Patras, at Villa Kolla, on January 10, 2026, from 12:00 to 18:00.
The rationale of the call focused on approaching the legendary Golfo in a creative, reflective, and radical manner, aiming at the renewal of contemporary theatrical writing in Greece.
The contestants addressed issues of recent history, raised questions of stage language, explored the limits of theatrical discourse, and highlighted themes that engage with contemporary concerns.
The awarded plays will be presented to the theatre-loving public of Patras by students of the Drama School of the National Theatre (Acting and Directing), the student research group THEOREIO, and the Theatre Laboratory of Drama and Speech of the Department of Theatre Studies at the University of Patras.
This will be preceded by a discussion with the playwrights and with Ms. Lina Rozi, Associate Professor and President of the Department of Theatre Studies; Mr. Akis Dimou, playwright; and Ms. Dio Kangelari, Director of the Drama School of the National Theatre, in Room DT02 of the Department of Tourism Management.
