YANNIS PALAMIOTIS, Actor – Writer

Yannis Palamiotis was born and lives in Thessaloniki. He has worked mainly in the theatre, moving between acting and writing, and for a time he also wrote and produced radio programmes.

He studied at the Epitheorisi Dramatikis Technis drama school. As an actor he performed in Travesties, Dark Crimes (Skotina engklimata), polyBeckett and Hedda Gabler (directed by Roula Pateraki), in The Invention of Morel (directed by Nikos Diamantis) and in Strindberg-Strindberg (directed by Michail Marmarinos), as well as in productions of the Experimental Stage of the Theatro Technis (Nora, Odyssey, The Great Journey, The End of the Atreids). He also appeared in the film Meteoro kai Skia (Meteor and Shadow). From the early 1990s he worked at the National Theatre of Northern Greece, first as a prompter and later as a stage manager, for more than thirty years.

His published works include the novel Oi filoi i Paracharaxi ithikis (The Friends, or the Counterfeiting of Morality; Exantas 1984, Polychromos Planitis 2010), the novella Mitroktonia (Matricide; Biglieto 1996, Tyrfi 2018), Apo to parko sto keno (From the Park into the Void; Polychromos Planitis 2008) and Ta sa ek ton son (Tyrfi 2015). His most recent book, Theatroplixia (Theatre Madness; Kappa Ekdotiki, 2026), records his experience of a life in the theatre and his views on the state of theatre in Thessaloniki.

 

FANIS DIPLAS, Actor – Director

Fanis Diplas is a Greek actor and theatre director. He founded the Viomichaniki Theatre Company in 1999 and the Lithografeion Theatre in Patras in 2000, which he ran until 2014.

He studied at the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Patras and graduated from the ARCHI Higher School of Dramatic Art. He has attended workshops and professional training programmes led by distinguished theatre practitioners, including Mirka Gementzaki, Theodoros Terzopoulos, Anna Kokkinou, Angela Brouskou, Maya Lymberopoulou and Vasilis Diamantopoulos.

As an actor, he has worked with the directors Angela Brouskou, Anna Kokkinou, Christos Strepkos, Despoina Panagiotopoulou, Maria Lazou, Kostas Kazakos, Stavros Tsakiris, Cezaris Graužinis and Maria Varsou. At the Lithografeion Theatre he also appeared in Pluto and Eurydice by Zefi Daraki, directed by Dimos Avdeliodis (a Viomichaniki production, 2018–2019 season), alongside Giorgos Diplas.

As a director, his productions include Telos Panton by Erofili Lekka (2002), Aeschylus’ Agamemnon (2006, for Patras European Capital of Culture), Menander’s Dyskolos (a staged reading within the project Lost Man – On Misanthropy, 2012) and Primarolia by Athina Kakouri (Municipal and Regional Theatre of Patras, 2019). In 2020 he conceived and directed the documentary-theatre performance Patras, the City of Factories, Rebetiko and Karagiozis (Municipal and Regional Theatre of Patras). Among his most recent productions is The Parade by Loula Anagnostaki, presented at the Lithografeion Theatre in the 2025–2026 season.

In theatre education, he has taught at the Theatre Workshop of the Municipality of Patras, the Viomichaniki Workshop at the Lithografeion Theatre, and theatre groups at the Open Care Centres for Older People (KAPI) in Patras, presenting the results of their work to the public.

His film credits include the short films 5 Seasons (Spring) by Giorgos Maraziotis, Single Bed by Giorgos Kouvaras and The Harsh Machine by Vasilis Giatzis.

He has studied theatrical lighting and works as a lighting designer for theatre, dance, music and visual arts productions. He also has experience in theatre management and production.

He is a member of the Hellenic Actors’ Union (SEH).
